This 'knowledge space' is dedicated to a special person who always inspire me with the unconditional passion for libraries and books where knowledge and wisdom meets - you know who you are! A piece of hope that it will give benefits and motivates all great supporters in libraries and information world regardless of who they are...information professionals, library staff, avid readers or who ever could be dropping by to read what this column is all about.
How libraries came into my world...
Library has already 'occupied' a soft spot in my life eversince the kindergarten years. Reading books on Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mystery cases plus Tintin's adventures with his cute Snowy has made
me - a small figure kid that could only reach the second level of the shelves to stand still for hours standing beside the library shelves searching for these books at each time i visited my hometown public library. Whenever i saw any book fall down or unnicely put on the shelves, immediately it will be arranged accordingly to the right position or location - yes that was me at the age of six who never thought that one day i will put my heart and soul in the world of library and information science arranging the 'right knowledge, for the right person at a right time with a right purpose'...
Today, the spirit of enthusiasm towards books and libraries have nurtured me to become a 'story teller' by sharing any 'real case' on libraries, books or a person that have changed the knowledge scenario into a better place.
- interesting projects/facts:
'Hole in the Wall' - The idea was initiated in India by Hole In the Wall Education Limited (HIWEL), where free Internet street kiosks were provided in rural areas for children who were unfamiliar with computers and the Internet. It was observed that, even in the absence of any direct input, mere curiosity led groups of children to explore, which resulted in learning. This led to the belief that any learning environment that provides an adequate level of curiosity and motivation can promote learning in groups of children, with no intervention from adults. It was further proven that it is possible to install a computer, connect it to the Internet, and keep it in working condition in any outdoor environment despite heat or dust, etc. more...
